Previously, maintaining basic hygiene standards was almost impossible due to the lack of reliable access to clean water. Healthcare providers struggled to carry out routine tasks, essential tasks such as sterilizing equipment, ensuring proper handwashing, and maintaining a clean environment for patients, all of which are critical for preventing infections for both patients and staff.

The water challenges extended beyond the health center to the surrounding communities. Residents relied on unsafe water for their daily needs, such as cooking food, washing utensils, and cleaning hands, further jeopardizing their health and well-being.
Water improves both confidence and safety at the Kigadye Health Center
Thanks to the generous support of the Grundfos Foundation and UNICEF, Kigadye village has been transformed through the provision of clean and safe water. As a result, the health center now has a continuous supply of running water, which has significantly improved hygiene standards and proper sanitation practices.
The staff and patients now feel more confident and safer knowing that the health facility meets essential hygiene standards. Access to clean water has also improved the management of childbirth and other medical procedures, enhancing overall care quality.
Over 112,000 people now have access to safe water, significantly reducing frequent waterborne diseases. This improvement has profoundly impacted the Kigadye Health Center and seven sother health facilities where better hygiene practices have created a safer environment for both patients and healthcare providers.
