Nuru: Water access means less fear and more dreams
Nuru no longer worries about the potential threat of harm from strangers while fetching water. Now, she can dream about her future instead.

Nuru, a young student from Kigeni Primary School in Kigoma, faced numerous risks during her daily walk to fetch water for her family.

Each journey exposed her to the dangers of travelling long distances through isolated paths, with the potential threat of harm from strangers. In addition, carrying heavy containers caused frequent exhaustion and pain, leading her to miss school. This routine not only compromised her safety but also hindered her education, making her dreams of a better future seem increasingly distant.

Nuru’s life changed dramatically when her village received piped water, thanks to the support of the Grundfos Foundation in partnership with UNICEF.

Reliable water helps to achieve future dreams

Now, as she sits next to a water tap, she reflects on how access to clean, safe water has transformed her life. She no longer needs to wake up before dawn to walk for miles to fetch water. The time once spent on these exhausting journeys is now dedicated to attending classes regularly and participating in school activities.

With reliable access to water, Nuru no longer worries about missing lessons. Her dream of becoming a nurse – a profession she has admired since she was little, now feels within reach. For her, the tap is not just a source of water; it’s a symbol of hope and a stepping stone toward achieving her dreams.
